HubSpot offers a wide range of AI tools, and it can often be challenging to track the number of tools available and which ones are truly worth using. In this blog, I’m testing HubSpot’s AI Blog Generator to see how well it performs, what kind of content it creates and whether it’s a tool marketers should add to their workflow.
Where to Access It: Content > Blog > Start with AI
What it Does:
HubSpot’s blog post generator is supposed to provide a decent starting point for creating a comprehensive blog. It enables you to generate the title, an outline and a rough draft of your blog post focused on key topics, goals and the main point the blog will cover.
How it Works:
1. Define the Idea
- To utilize this tool, click the “Start with AI” button in the top right corner of the blog post page within HubSpot.
- From there, it will give you the option to select a topic recommendation or provide your topic or idea. If you’re unsure of a topic, selecting one of the recommendations is a decent option for getting started.
- If you don’t select a recommended topic, you’ll need to explain the key topics, goals and main points of what the blog post will cover in the box below. I recommend making this as detailed as possible to ensure the best results.
- Next, you’ll choose a keyword that you want to target and rank, along with which blog this will be created for and the industry you’re creating this blog for.
2. Select a Title
- Next, select a title for your blog. What’s helpful about this feature is that it shows you the monthly search volume and ranking difficulty for each title. Ensure a balance between low difficulty and high volume for optimal results.
3. (Optional) Add Documents:
- This next step is optional, but we highly recommend doing it. You can provide audio, imagery, text, transcripts, video and any other files to make your blog post better. The more you include, the higher quality your initial starting point will be.
4. Review Outline:
- Finally, you’ll have a chance to review the outline created by the prompting you provided.
- You can include an AI-generated image, which we wouldn’t recommend, along with a blog post description that will further improve the blog post draft.
- Here, you can also edit the paragraph headers of the blog and further customize the blog itself.
- When you’re finished, click generate blog post and you’ll have your draft!
My Review:
Now that we know how it works, is it any good? I decided to test it out by creating a blog to see how solid a starting point it could give me and how much time it might save compared to writing from scratch.
I went in with a topic ready: “Do You Need a 10k Budget to Run CTV Ads?” I picked this because we already have a podcast episode on the same subject, and I wanted to see how well it could help me repurpose existing content. That meant I was able to upload the actual podcast audio and the prep document I used when creating the episode.
It kicked back a pretty solid title option: “How to Advertise on CTV Without a Huge Budget,” which came with a decent MSV and low keyword difficulty. After uploading my assets and tweaking the paragraph headers it suggested, I was pleasantly surprised by the results.
The blog itself was comprehensive, although it definitely needs additional editing to refine its voice and personality. Overall, it’s a solid starting point, and I could see myself using it to save time on future blog drafts.
Like anything AI-generated, I’d highly recommend going through and heavily editing the copy to make sure it’s accurate and sounds like you. It’s not a full replacement for writing, but it’s a helpful tool in the process. I’d give it a 3.5/5.
